The Army will conduct a thorough review of behavioral-health diagnosis protocols throughout its health-care system. Army Secretary John McHugh and Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond T. Odierno ordered the review, in response to reports that soldiers who were diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) had those determinations reversed by the staff at Madigan Army Medical Center, Wash. Subsequent reviews concluded that in many instances, the original PTSD diagnoses were accurate. Soldiers who suffer from PTSD must receive conclusive diagnoses in order to receive appropriate treatment through either the Defense Department or Department of Veterans Affairs.
