The Army is recalling more than 16,000 sets of body armor plate inserts, which will be tested to determine if they provide the protective jobs for which they are intended. A Jan. 29 report by the Defense Department’s inspector general’s office raised questions about the tests the Army conducted on the three types of plates in question, the Army stated Feb. 2. The Army’s office of operational test and evaluation, which manages the body-armor program, believes the plates are effective. But the Army will conduct the tests anyway, to resolve the difference of opinion between the two agencies.
