The White House has recognized the achievement of a former Army captain who now works for the service as a researcher. Maria Urso, of the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Natick, Mass., was tapped as one of 100 young scientists to receive the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. Urso and other honorees will receive the honor at a July 31 ceremony at the Smithsonian Institution Museum of Natural History in Washington. Urso’s work focused on cellular mechanisms of musculoskeletal injury. Her work could help treat service members who sustain skeletal muscle injuries, blunt-force traumas, and blast injuries.
