In response to the Pentagon leadership’s directive to open combat billets to women, the Army plans to move forward with implementation cautiously. “There will be no immediate changes,” said Col. Linda Scheimo the programs and policy chief with the Army’s personnel and manpower command (G-1). Before any heretofore-closed combat billets open to women, Scheimo said, the service would examine each military occupational specialty (MOS) thoroughly. Nothing will change before summer, she said. Of the Army’s 450 MOSs, 20 are closed to women. The plan calls for opening every MOS to women by the beginning of 2016, unless exceptions to some jobs are specifically approved.
