The Defense Department has ordered more than 1,300 new Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs), with plans to deploy them quickly to troops in Afghanistan. The new MRAPs are better equipped with blast-protection innovations, including a better suspension and improved ability to operate off-road.
