The Air Force announced plans to upgrade the fleet of B-62 Stratofortress bombers, the cornerstone of the service’s inventory for nearly 60 years. Plans for the aircraft include “smart weapons” capability, upgraded targeting pods, and better combat network communications. The changes will ensure the aircraft’s viability well into the 21st century, Air Force officials said.
