The Army has canceled plans to establish three new brigade combat teams, and changed a plan that would relocate an existing, Europe-based BCT to a stateside base. The three new BCTs were to have been based at Fort Bliss, Texas, Fort Carson, Colo., and Fort Stewart, Ga. The existing unit would have moved to White Sands Missile Range, N.M., from Europe. The decision, reached by Army leaders to bring the service into line with the Obama administration’s plan for establishment of 45 BCTs by Sept. 30, 2010, will not affect the Army’s authorized end strength of 547,400.
