Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the soldier who disappeared, was captured by the Taliban, and later returned to U.S. custody in a five-for-one prisoner swap, has returned to regular Army duty. “Sgt. Bergdahl has completed the final phase of the reintegration process,” the Army said in a statement. “He will now return to regular duty within the command where he can contribute to the mission. The Army investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding the disappearance and capture of Bergdahl is still ongoing.” Bergdahl apparently disappeared voluntarily from his unit during a 2009 deployment to Afghanistan. He was captured by the Taliban and held until the prisoner exchange in May. Investigators intend to conclude their probe into his disappearance by August, and decide whether he should face trial or disciplinary action for desertion or other possible charges.
