Armed Forces News

Armed Forces News readers should be aware of a new tax refund phishing scam. An e-mail message supposedly from the Internal Revenue Service, opens with: “You filed your tax return and you’re expecting a refund. You have just one question and you want the answer now – Where’s My Refund?” A link is supposed to direct you to a “secure” Web site which will look like the IRS site. (If you hover your cursor over the link, you might see that the address being linked to is not the real IRS site at www.irs.gov.) If you click on the link, you will be asked for your name, Social Security number and credit card information. After a generic refund amount flashes on the screen, you will be asked for enough information that, if you provide it, will completely steal your identity.
