A measure now under consideration by the House would extend Post-9/11 G.I. Bill benefits to more than 30,000 Army and Air National Guard members who are presently ineligible to receive them. Rep. David Loebsack, D-Iowa, introduced the measure, H.R. 3554, on Sept. 10. Under the current law, Guard members who provide airport security, protect U.S. airspace, fly hurricane-hunting missions, and support counternarcotics activities, are not eligible for full benefits. The measure, which would also extend benefits to all veterans with service-connected disabilities, is now pending before the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
