Veterans now have a longer time to prove to the Department of Veterans Affairs that the own their small businesses. The VA now requires re-verification every two years, rather than annually. Agency officials say the change was made to eliminate uncertainty and reduce the administrative burden for veterans who own businesses. The certification gives veterans priority when applying for federal contracts.
