The Pentagon has hired a civilian contractor to develop a system that in time will replace the present inefficient one. The $9.3 million award to SAP Concur would ultimately lead to reduced labor hours and lower airline ticket costs that the government incurs each year when two million active-duty, civilian and reserve-component personnel travel. Seventy percent of all such travel involves temporary duty requirements, at a cost of roughly $9 billion a year.
