Carter Criticizes Russian Role in Syria

Russia’s decision to launch air raids against pro-U.S. assets in Syria drew sharp criticism from Defense Secretary Ash Carter. Speaking in Madrid Oct. 5, Carter calls the Russian tactics “way off track.” Carter specifically took issue with the Kremlin’s decision to place its support Syria’s strongman president, Bashar Assad. Doing so would only serve to “pour gasoline on the civil war in Syria,” Carter said.
