The Air Force hopes to reduce active-duty officer end strength through voluntary programs. However, if it does not reach its fiscal 2007 goal by the end of the extended Voluntary Separation Pay (VSP) application window March 31, 2007, it will convene a RIF board in June, said Lt. Gen. Roger A. Brady, Air Force deputy for manpower and personnel. The board would consider officers with six to 12 years of active commissioned service in overage career fields from year groups 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2001. The action is expected to terminate approximately 1,000 officers. Those not selected for retention will be separated by Jan. 29, 2008.
