Command Sgt. Maj. Raymond F. Chandler III has been selected to replace Kenneth Preston as Sergeant Major of the Army, the service announced. Chandler, who now serves as the first enlisted commandant of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, joined the Army in 1981. He was born in Whittier, Calif. As the Army’s top-ranked senior enlisted, he will serve as advisor to Secretary of the Army John McHugh and Chief of Staff Gen. George W. Casey Jr., on matters important to enlisted soldiers.
