Veterans could find the process of transferring their military skills to comparable, viable civilian careers simplified, under a new Pentagon pilot program. Under the test, the labor and Defense departments will review 17 military specialties in the aircraft mechanics, automobile mechanics, health care, supply and logistics, and truck driving fields. During the assessment, the agencies will examine how military training in those fields parallels that of their civilian counterparts in similar jobs. “We’re looking at how we can better document and translate military training and experience so that civilian credentialing agencies and states can better understand the nature of military training and award appropriate credit,” said Pentagon spokeswoman Eileen Lainez.
