Service members can get college credit for what they learned on the job, through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). Moreover, because the Defense Activity for Non Traditional Education Support (DANTES) picks up the tab, CLEP tests could save service members and eligible dependents thousands of dollars in tuition. Some conditions apply. Service members must request transcripts through military channels, obtain free study materials from installation education centers, and bring special identification to CLEP tests the day of each of exam. More information is available on the CLEP Web site, at http://clep.collegeboard.org/military.
