The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of death of Cmdr. Keith Willis, the commanding officer of the medium-endurance cutter Tahoma. Willis, 44, was found dead in his cabin Feb. 15, while the vessel was moored in its homeport of Kittery, Maine. Willis, a 1989 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy, served as Tahoma’s skipper since May 2007. The ship recently took part in law enforcement and marine safety operations off the New England coast, before returning to port Jan. 28.
