A Coast Guard search team found debris off the coast of South Carolina on Oct. 16 believed to be that of an Air Force F-16CJ Fighting Falcon that crashed after colliding with another aircraft during a night-training exercise a day earlier. The planes were attached to the 20th Fighter Wing, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. The pilot of the downed fighter, Capt. Nicholas Giglio, was still missing at the time the wreckage was found. The other F-16s’s pilot, Capt. Lee Bryant, landed the damaged fighter safely at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C.
