The Coast Guard cutter Boutwell returned to port Oct. 6 with more than 28,000 pounds of cocaine seized during a 90-day counter narcotics mission – valued at more than $423 million. With assistance from Navy assets as well, Boutwell amassed the haul during 18 separate interdictions off the coast of South and Central America. Boutwell conducted six of those interdictions. Fifty-five suspects were taken into custody during the mission, which was dubbed Operation Martillo.
