The Navy Personnel Command’s Center for Personal and Professional Development advises sailors who are working on college degrees to ensure the schools they attend must be properly accredited. Failure to do so could cost sailors money. Schools may be accredited regionally, nationally, or for specialized programs and single-purpose organizations. Each form of accreditation has its merits. Student-service members should be cognizant of which type of accredited institution they are attending, and understand that coursework is not necessarily transferrable among different schools or accreditation categories.
