Each active and reserve component of the Defense Department’s four armed services except for the Army Reserve either met or exceeded recruiting goals for fiscal year 2013, which began last Oct. 1 and ended Sept. 30. The Air Force Reserve showed the greatest gain against projections, signing up 7,846 new accessions – ahead of its goal of 5,817. The Army Reserve reported 26,191 accessions, short of its goal of 29,880. The active Army (69,154 accessions), Navy (40,112 accessions) Marine Corps (21,215 accessions) and Air Force (26,275 accessions) and Marine Corps Reserve (8,798 accessions) all met their goals. The Navy Reserve (5,584 accessions) and Air National Guard (10,737 accessions) slightly exceeded recruiting goals.
