The Army has awarded Wisconsin-based Oshkosh Defense LLC the contract to build the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), which will replace the fleet of aging Humvees. The $6.7 billion contract calls for delivery of 17,000 new vehicles and “sustainment services,” the company announced on its Web site. Oshkosh claims its JLTV will move over rugged terrain at speeds 70 percent faster than current capability. The vehicle will have two- and four-seat variants. Oshkosh beat Lockheed-Martin Corp. and AM General Corp., which also produced prototype replacements for the Humvee.
