General James F Amos has succeeded General Robert Magnus as assistant commandant of the Marine Corps. The announcement came in remarks by the commandant, Gen. James T. Conway, in ALMAR 027/08. Amos comes to headquarters from Marine Corps Combat Development Command at Quantico, Va., where he served as commander. In previous tours, he held several command positions in support of NATO operations in Kosovo, and commanded both the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and the II Marine Expeditionary Force. After graduating from the University of Idaho in 1970, he flew F-4 Phantom II and F/A-18 Hornet aircraft in Marine squadrons. “His rich experience in multi-national, joint, operational, and support billets, both as a commander and staff officer, has prepared him well,” Conway stated.
