Two sailors received Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals for saving the lives of Afghan civilians who were injured in a March 25 vehicle accident. Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Louis Bismonte and Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Frederick B. Ehlers, were relaxing in their quarters, according to the citation, when they were called to the Afghan army medical tent to assist the injured. They worked together with Afghan medics to assist the casualties, and are credited with helping save the lives of several people. In total, 28 persons were injured and five died. The two corpsmen are credited with ensuring that the number of fatalities was not higher. Bismonte and Ehlers are attached to the Embedded Partner Team, Combat Logistics Battalion 4, now attached to 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward), Regimental Combat Team 6. The ceremony took place at Camp Delaram II, Afghanistan.
