Medical diagnosticians and therapists and ballistics analysts each soon will be able to use CT (computed tomography) scanners to perform better analyses of injuries and tests. Researchers at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory Survivability/Lethality Analysis Directorate in Adelphi, Md., have acquired a new mobile CT system, which will provide much clearer images of objects that are being studied. The better machines can offer three-dimensional images of an object’s surface and core. To date, they have uncovered a defect in some artificial legs, and a fault in ballistic-experiment targets that otherwise would have gone undiscovered.
