Coast Guard law-enforcement crews aboard the cutter Morgenthau intercepted a go-fast boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean July 24, seizing two tons of cocaine and arresting four suspects. Morgenthau began pursuing the contraband-laden boat after a patrol aircraft identified it as suspicious. When Morgenthau dispatched two small pursuit vessels and its onboard helicopter, the go-fast boat’s crew tried to flee. Coast Guard crews spotted them tossing suspected contraband overboard as well. A marksman aboard the helicopter disabled the vessel by firing a rifle round into its motor, allowing the pursuit aircraft and vessels to stop it, seize the cocaine, and arrest the crew. Morgenthau is based at Alameda, Calif.; the helicopter flight crew is attached to the Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron, based in Jacksonville, Fla.
