The Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant returned home to Port Canaveral, Fla., June 2, after seizing more than one ton of contraband cocaine from a vessel in international waters June 23. Vigilant’s crew intercepted the and boarded the 35-foot vessel roughly 90 miles off the coast of Punta Beata, Dominican Republic, after a chase in open water at speeds that exceeded 35 miles per hour. The boarding team found the bales of cocaine on the vessel’s deck, and detained three crewmembers as suspected smugglers.
