The Navy’s chief of cyber security outlined a plan by which his command is assuming a role parallel with the service’s other communities. “What we’re doing here is all about warfighting,” Vice Adm. Ted N. “Twig” Branch, the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare, said during a May 16 conference in Oxon Hill, Md., held by the Navy League of the United States. “The goal [is] to make us recognizable and approachable to the rest of the Navy, in a form that [they] will be able to relate to,” Branch said. Branch’s command is training to be ready for contingencies in which enemies knock out certain aspects of cyber capabilities. The remaining areas will be able to continue functioning, perhaps assuming some of the roles of the damaged spaces, he said.
