Base offices that issue identification cards no longer can update information for those cards automatically. Information contained in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) is now locked down. Service members who need to update the status of citizenship, birth dates, gender, Social Security numbers, service dates, and any other relevant information now must contact service personnel centers to do so. Information about dependent family members still can be updated through personnel offices. The tighter procedure applies only to service members.
