Gen. Martin E. Dempsey became the new commander of the Army’s Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe, Va., on Dec. 8, replacing Gen. William S. Wallace. Dempsey comes to TRADOC from U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., where he served as deputy commander. A 1974 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., Dempsey will oversee the 50,000 uniformed and civilian staffers who recruit and train soldiers at 32 schools on 16 installations. Previous duty tours included service during Operation Desert Shield, command of the 1st Armored Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and as an English instructor at West Point.
