The Navy has released details for transferability of Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits for limited duty sailors. Under the guidelines, sailors in limited-duty status who require an additional service obligation for transferability must wait until they receive a final determination of their medical status. The change essentially applies existing regulations to sailors in limited-duty status. Once a limited-duty sailor is cleared to return to duty, he or she must follow standard transferability procedures. Limited-duty sailors who receive honorable medical discharges for reasons other than willful misconduct will maintain their right to transfer new education benefits, providing they have completed at least 10 years of service. More details are articulated in NAVADMIN 354/09, viewable on the Navy Personnel Command Web site at www.npc.navy.mil.
