The 10 sailors who were detained by Iran when one of their vessels encountered engine trouble and drifted into Iranian waters returned to their homeport at San Diego Naval Station, Calif., Jan. 22. Navy Times reported Jan. 25 that the sailors were in “good spirits,” and that the incident is under investigation. The two crews spent roughly 16 hours in detention before the Iranians released them. At least one media report said that even though the Iranians returned the vessels as well, they did seize some mobile telephones and other gear.
