Forty-three Gulf Coast Navy families towed 32-foot travel trailers last week from Naval Construction Battalion Center (CBC) Gulfport to their hurricane damaged home sites in Mississippi and Louisiana. Navy Region Southeast Morale, Welfare and Recreation and Navy Family Housing worked together through Task Force Navy Family to provide the trailers to Navy families recovering from home damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in late August. “The trailers are available for use at their home at their discretion,” said Jim Veazey of Navy Family Housing. According to Veazey the resident is responsible for the trailer’s material condition and pays $1 a day to use it for an indefinite amount of time. Trailers may be placed up to 50 miles from the member’s duty station. Residents from CBC Gulfport may move the trailer anywhere within a designated 130 square mile radius.
