DoD to Armed Civilians: Stand Down, Please

The Defense Department has requested that armed civilians not stand guard at military recruiting centers. “It could adversely impact our mission, and potentially create unintended security risks,” Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said July 24. Defense Secretary Ash Carter has ordered a review of safety procedures, following the July 16 shooting deaths of four Marines and a sailor at a Chattanooga, Tenn., reserve center.
