Army Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody became the first female to wear four stars during a Nov. 14 Pentagon ceremony. With her new rank, she will take the reins of the Army Materiel Command, which is responsible for providing arms, equipment and uniforms for soldiers. Dunwoody, 55, became an expert in military logistics during her 33-year career. While her father and brothers both graduated from West Point, she entered the service through the Women’s Army Corps – at the time, the only avenue available to her. Still, Dunwoody said in a speech during her promotion ceremony, "I never grew up in an environment where I even heard of the words ‘glass ceiling.’ I never felt like there were limitations on what I could do." She is married to retired Air Force Col. Craig Brotchie.
