F/A-18 Crashes Near Miramar

An F/A-18D Hornet crashed into a civilian neighborhood in San Diego Dec. 8. The jet was part of Marine Aircraft Group 11, based at nearby Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, Calif. The plane was returning to Miramar from a training exercise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln at the time. The Pentagon confirmed that the pilot ejected; according to media reports, he was found in good condition in his parachute, which was suspended in a tree. Four persons on the ground were killed. The incident is under investigation.
