Seven persons sustained minor injuries after fighting a fire on the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine Miami while it was in port at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, N.H., May 23. The fire damaged Miami’s forward compartment spaces, where crew members live and some command-and-control activities take place. The fire never affected the vessel’s nuclear reactor, which had been shut down for more than two months. The injured included two crew members, three shipyard firefighters, and two civilian firefighters.
