The decommissioned carrier Forrestal, the first of the Navy’s so-called supercarriers, is headed for the scrap yard. After failing to find a suitable applicant to turn the vessel into a floating museum, the Navy accepted a contract offer in October from All Star Metals, a Brownsville, Texas-based dismantling firm. The company began moving Forrestal to Brownsville from the ship graveyard at Philadelphia Naval Station, Pa., Feb 4. Forrestal was decommissioned in 1993 after 38 years of service.
