Gates Plans End-Strength Increases

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has proposed adding 92,000 troops to the Army and Marine Corps end strength over a five year period. The increase, which would cost $10 billion annually, would break down to 65,000 soldiers and 27,000 Marines. Gates also set a policy change to allow remobilization of Guard and reserve forces that already have served in Iraq or Afghanistan.
