The Senate has confirmed Lt. Gen. Frank G. Klotz to become commander of the Air Force Global Strike Command, the new hierarchy established to manage the service’s bomber and missile organizations. Klotz, a career space and missile officer, presently serves as assistant vice chief of staff and Air Force staff director. He will assume his new position once AFGSC is activated. The provisional AFGSC, now headquartered at Bolling Air Force Base, D.C., will likely be located at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. Air Force officials will make a final decision sometime this summer, once an environmental impact analysis for the proposed site is complete. Klotz would relieve Maj. Gen. James Kowalski, AFGSC’s provisional commander.
