Google Voice, the Internet giant’s foray into the realm of telephone communications, could someday offer service members and their families an inexpensive and thorough way to stay in touch. While still under development, Google Voice is available to selected customers by invitation only. Those hooked up to it receive a single phone number that automatically connects to home, office, and cell phones simultaneously. The service also transcribes and e-mails call contents. While Google Voice is under development, Google is giving priority to service members interested in trying it. As such, any service member with a .mil e-mail address can visit www.google.com/militaryinvite to sign up for a free Google Voice account. Users will be able to make free calls within the U.S., and pay nominal fees for international calls.
