President Obama has nominated Rep. John McHugh (R-N.Y.) to replace Pete Geren as Secretary of the Army. McHugh has served in Congress since 1992, as ranking Republican member of both the Armed Services Committee and its military personnel subcommittee. The district McHugh represents includes his hometown of Watertown, and Fort Drum, N.Y., the home of the 10th Mountain Division. Like all cabinet appointees, McHugh must first face confirmation by the Senate before assuming his position as the Army’s highest-ranking civilian. He also served for 16 years on the Board of Visitors at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
