The chairman and ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee are formally asking Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director James B. Comey Jr., to provide details about the relationship between former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and the Russian government. Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general, resigned Feb. 13 after serving fewer than two months on the job, after reports surfaced of alleged improper contact he had with Russian officials. In a Feb. 15 letter to Sessions and Comey, Sens. Charles E. Grassley, R-Iowa, and Diane Feinstein, D-Calif., asked to see all classified and unclassified documents pertaining to Flynn’s contacts with Russia during the recent presidential election campaign. In his resignation letter to President Trump, Flynn acknowledged holding “numerous phone calls with foreign counterparts,” aimed at facilitating “a smooth transition.” He also stated that he provided Vice President Pence with “incomplete information” about those contacts.
