The Guard Recruiter Assistant Program, which kicked off last week in five states, is offering a two-tiered finder fee for National Guard members who bring in a recruit — $1,000 when the individual enlists and another $1,000 when the recruit reports for basic training. To qualify as assistants, Guard members in good standing must complete an online training program that covers ethics, values of the National Guard and qualifications for military service. Successful graduates will receive a marketing kit. When they land a recruit they’ll log the individual’s name into a website for regular recruiters to contact. But the recruiter assistants’ jobs do not end there, because they are supposed to be mentors and sponsors of their recruits during training. The program began as a pilot project in Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, North Dakota and West Virginia. It could be expanded nationwide by September 2006, said officials.
