Louisiana Army National Guard Capt. Andrew Gremillion received the service’s highest award for non-combat valor Oct. 30, for saving the life of a woman whose vehicle crashed into a canal. The incident during which Gremillion earned the Soldier’s Medal occurred in February 2014. He had been driving with his wife and child in the car when he heard the splash made when the woman lost control of her vehicle and descended into a canal parallel to the road. Within seconds, he pulled his own car over and descended into the water to rescue the woman. At the award ceremony in Baton Rouge, La., Gremillion downplayed the incident. “I was just fortunate enough to e the one there to help out a nice lady in time of need,” he said.
