Thirty-two families displaced by Hurricane Katrina moved into temporary homes provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport (CBC) during the weekend of Oct. 8. FEMA Temporary Home Site 1 has 134 new trailers to house Navy families unable to live in their homes due to storm damage. Phone and cable hook-ups are available and laundry facilities are nearby. According to Ensign Robert Seltzer of Task Force Navy Family, while living in the FEMA trailer, Sailors continue to receive Basic Allowance for Housing and continue to qualify for future FEMA assistance. Residents moving into the temporary homes on base receive a welcome letter from the CBC commanding officer including a Defense Commissary Agency $25 gift card and a Navy Exchange $50 gift card.
