Five of the Navy’s 10 aircraft carriers are not available for deployment because they need repairs, the officer who manages the program told lawmakers on Capitol Hill recently. “I think what we’ve seen here recently [is] a result of being down to 10 carriers and having to run carriers at a pace faster than they were designed for,” Rear Adm. Tom Moore told the House Armed Services Committee, according to the U.S. Naval Institute. The carriers undergoing repair are Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Nimitz, George H.W. Bush, and Carl Vinson.
