Health Chief Outlines Obesity Concerns

Navy Vice Adm. (Dr.) Raquel Bono, the director of the Defense Health Agency, is concerned that too many service members are obese. MilitaryTimes.com reported Oct. 20 that Bono voiced her concerns to members of the news media, citing recent data that shows 7.8 percent of all troops are clinically overweight. The figure represents a two-fold increase in the past five years, and could pose a threat to readiness, Bono said.
