In response to reports of confirmed swine flu cases in several states, both the Defense and Health and Human Services departments are taking steps to minimize the illness’s potential threat. Stateside and overseas military treatment facilities are increasing stockpiles of the prescription anti-viral drugs relenza and tamiflu. Meanwhile, HHS has taken the precautionary measure of declaring the potential swine flu pandemic a public emergency, to ensure that resources are available in case the pandemic spreads.
